Our Values

As we work to tackle criminal justice reform and end qualified immunity we remain grounded in through the value we place in democracy and our fellow citizens. We center ourselves around realistic solutions the the racial legacy problems that plague our society and  criminal justice system.

Our Start

Just Policies formed after the murder of George Floyd in the summer of 2020 with a focus on ending Qualified Immunity as we believe this policy lead to the casual disregard officer Derek Chauvin displayed for the life of George Floyd.  From a single policy focus, we have broadened our mission to transforming racial justice in the criminal justice system.  Though we plan to eventually branch out to other areas of policy, we expect to spend the next several years focused primarily on the reformation of the criminal justice system.

Change Through Democracy

We believe democracy can only work if citizens engage with it. Our efforts for change run through elected officials and the democratic system: petitions, protest, outreach, and citizen mobilization. We want to channel the energy and awareness around criminal justice reform and racial justice into policy change at the state, local, and federal level.

The Path to Policy Change

We've been researching policy recommendations at 3 levels: policing, the courts and incarceration.  With the help of those that have walked this path before us and the people directly involved in both the community and the criminal justice system, we’ve formulated a roadmap we believe in.  There is a path to realistic and meaningful transformation (see Big Picture).  We plan on going viral, harnessing and steering the current collective energies of concern/protest, and channeling them toward creating a justice system we can actually say is just.
